New Student Orientation

General Information for Students:

New Student Orientation sessions are two full days and include one overnight stay on campus. Orientation sessions occur throughout the months of June, July, and August. Registration for orientation sessions is completed on a first-come, first served basis beginning April 7, 2017 (for summer and fall admitted students) and November (for spring admitted students).

Orientation includes: presentations, academic advising, course registration, social activities, and small group discussions covering a wide range of topics related to the academic and co-curricular experience.

Students are offered session dates based on their admitted school or college and major. Your admissions acceptance letter will tell you which school or college you have been admitted to.

*Students select and register for their orientation date - session dates are not assigned to students.

Orientation Housing and Meal Accommodations:

Housing in a university residence hall will be provided for all student during orientation and meals will be served in a university dining center. There is no fee for students to attend orientation.

Students are expected to attend the entire orientation program including the overnight portion, all presentations, and small group discussions. Students who miss part of orientation, arrive late, or need to leave early may be asked to reschedule their session dates, make up the missed portion, and/or may be unable to register for classes.

Orientation Early Arrival Process:

Students who live more than 100 miles from Temple's Main Campus may arrive the night before their registered orientation session for a $35 fee. All of our overnight orientation sessions allow for early arrival. Students who wish to arrive the night before their orientation session must complete the following steps at least two weeks prior to their orientation session:

  1. Register for an orientation session that has an overnight component through your TUPortal
  2. After you register for your orientation session, fill out the form found here. (Log in with your TU AccessNet Username and Password)
  3. A confirmation email will be sent back to you within 2-3 business days.
  4. Arrive between 5:00 and 7:00pm the night before your scheduled session and check in at White Hall.
  5. The Office of Orientation and New Student Programs will charge the $30 fee to the student's Fall semester bill. The Office of Orientation and New Student Programs does not accept cash, checks, or credit cards.

Please note: Students arriving early for orientation will not be provided meals or activities the night before the orientation session begins. Due to the limited number of students who arrive early for orientation, students may not have a roommate this night. The residence hall will be staffed with a security guard and student resident assistants.

Student Conduct:

Students attending orientation sessions are expected to abide by all policies outlined in the Temple University Student Conduct Code, including the Drug and Alcohol Policy. This policy prohibits the unlawful use of alcohol and drugs, as well as the use of and possession of alcohol and drugs on-campus and in University residence halls. Violations of this policy will be referred to Campus Safety Services and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. View the Student Conduct Code.
